DENTAL CONE BEAM CT SCAN
A dental cone beam CT scan is a diagnostic tool that combines dental X-rays with computerised tomography to produce a 3D image of your jaw, including bone shape and structure, soft tissues, and teeth. The procedure is completely pain-free and takes about 20 minutes.
Your dentist, orthodontist, or oral surgeon may request a CT scan for several reasons. The detailed images, which also show the nerves in your jaw, help the clinician diagnose your condition accurately and plan the most effective treatment.
Wisdom teeth removal, or the extraction of third molars, is a common dental procedure many people undergo. Wisdom teeth are the last set of molars to develop, usually between the ages of 17 and 25. Dentists often recommend removing them for several reasons:
Impaction: Wisdom teeth often don’t have enough room to erupt properly and may stay trapped under the gum or bone. This situation can cause pain, infection, or damage to the nearby teeth.
Crowding: When wisdom teeth erupt, they can push other teeth out of alignment, especially when the mouth doesn’t have enough space.
Tooth Decay or Gum Disease: Because these teeth sit far back in the mouth, it is often a struggle to clean them well. As a result, they face a higher risk of decay and gum disease.
Cyst Formation: Sometimes a cyst forms around an impacted wisdom tooth, which can harm the jawbone and surrounding teeth.
Exposure of an impacted tooth is a procedure often performed when a tooth fails to erupt fully or partially.
The procedure to expose an impacted tooth is generally, but not always performed as part of an orthodontic treatment plan.
This can be done under local anaesthetic, with IV sedation or under general anaesthetic if deemed necessary. A consultation including X-ray and, occasionally, a 3D scan is needed before the procedure.
A dental implant is a long-lasting solution for tooth loss.
Unlike dentures or bridges, which may require replacement over time, dental implants are a permanent solution for missing teeth.
A titanium post is implanted into the jawbone, which creates a strong and sturdy base for an artificial tooth.
This is the most preferable and popular tooth replacement option because it not only looks natural but also functions like a natural tooth.
Incisional and excisional biopsies :
On occasion there is need to investigate anomalies that may occur in the mouth. An oral biopsy is a procedure to remove a small piece of tissue from the mouth to be examined under a microscope for diagnosis. It is performed under local anesthesia to remove abnormal areas, such as lumps or lesions, to identify the cause, which can include cancer, inflammation, or infection. Recovery is usually quick, with occasional soreness or swelling. Specimens are sent to a laboratory for analysis and a follow-up appointment is required to discuss the results.
IV sedation, also known as intravenous sedation, is a technique used to help patients relax during dental procedures by administering a sedative drug directly into a vein.
This method allows dentists to adjust the level of sedation throughout the procedure, ensuring optimal comfort and relaxation for the patient.
It is particularly helpful for individuals with dental anxiety or those undergoing lengthy or complex treatments
